Chapter Four of the Mandalorian: The Sanctuary - A Plot Summary

In the fourth chapter of the Mandalorian, entitled “The Sanctuary,” the protagonist, Mandalorian, also known as Din Djarin (portrayed by Pedro Pascal), rescues a community of Krill farmers from Klatooinian raiders and successfully defeats an AT-ST with the assistance of Carasynthia Dune. Nevertheless, Mandalorian is plagued by persistent difficulties and is unable to lead a tranquil existence. He is compelled to abandon his peaceful refuge with the Child in order to evade the hunters of the imperial remnants and ensure their safety.

Prior to proceeding with the plot summary, let us briefly examine the principal occurrences of this chapter. The Mandalorian, having successfully absconded with the Child from the planet Nevarro, seeks to maintain a low profile and discovers a planet named Sorgan where he intends to reside for a period of time. Unfortunately, a group of Klatooinian bandits raid a village of krill farmers on Sorgan, plundering their harvest.

The Mandalorian proceeds to land his Razor Crest on the planet and subsequently locates a nearby common house where the Child can partake of some sustenance. It is there that he encounters Carasynthia Dune, portrayed by Gina Carano, an ex-shock trooper who has been lying low on the same planet for approximately one week. Inquiring about the woman to Dara Vish, the proprietor of the common house, Mandalorian discovers that she is not well-known in the area. Upon attempting to track Cara, a physical altercation ensues between the two, which ultimately leads to their reconciliation at the common house where Cara divulges her story. Having served as a peacekeeper for the New Republic for a period of time, Cara had opted for early retirement following the demise of the empire.

During the night, the Mandalorian returns to his spacecraft, where he is approached by two krill farmers who express their desire to enlist his services in safeguarding their village from the Klatooinian raiders. Despite their inability to offer a substantial sum of money, the Mandalorian initially declines their offer. However, he later accepts the job, recognizing that the farmers can provide him with comfortable accommodations in a remote location that they refer to as “the middle of nowhere.” The Mandalorian accepts the credits offered by the Krill farmers and seeks out Cara’s assistance in accompanying him to the village. Upon arriving at the village, they discover that the raiders have an imperial walker among their ranks, which they promptly inform the villagers of. Unfortunately, the villagers are unable to relocate, as they have spent generations cultivating the ponds and harvesting krills. As a result, the Mandalorian and Cara decide to train the villagers to defend themselves. They also dig one of the ponds deeper to create a trap for the AT-ST.

Mando and Cara launched an attack on the enemy encampment, resulting in the destruction of a tent. Subsequently, the AT-ST pursued them into the village, accompanied by Klatooinian raiders. The AT-ST ultimately fell into a pond, and Mandalorian utilized a grenade to destroy it. The villagers managed to eliminate some of the Klatooinians, while the remaining ones fled for their lives. Mando intended to depart the area and entrust the child to the care of the villagers. However, Cara proposed that the child could reside with the widow Omera and experience a happy upbringing. Mandalorian ultimately decided to leave the child in Omera’s custody. Unfortunately, the village’s tranquility was short-lived, as a Kubaz bounty hunter arrived, tracking the child. Cara eliminated the Kubaz bounty hunter, who had been dispatched by the ex-imperial client. Mandalorian resolved to leave the planet, taking the child with him.

The Sanctuary —————————————————————–

Chapter four of The Mandalorian commences with a depiction of a krill pond situated on Planet Sorgan. The krills are swimming in the ponds while the inhabitants of the village are engaged in the process of harvesting them, utilizing small reticulated baskets. The village comprises several small krill ponds where the inhabitants are actively involved in the process of harvesting krills. A widow by the name of Omera is observing her daughter Winta as she chases a frog. Omera is filled with joy at the sight of her child and proceeds to harvest krills. Other inhabitants of the village are also occupied with their respective tasks while some children are seen playing around. Winta continues to pursue the frog which jumps and eventually disappears into the bushes.

Abruptly, the inhabitants of the village hear the fluttering of birds above the trees. They discern a deafening roar emanating from the nearby woods and hastily flee from the ponds to their respective barns. Omera expeditiously retrieves her offspring and endeavors to shield her from a group of Klatooinian bandits who are advancing towards the village. Regrettably, she is unable to reach her barn and instead submerges herself and her child in a pond. She conceals their heads with a floating basket and remains concealed from the sight of the raiders. The Klatooinian bandits commence pillaging the freshly harvested krills and other provisions that are strewn about in the open. One of the raiders viciously strikes an astromech droid on its head.

The leader of the Klatooinians vociferates at his accomplices to plunder everything. Omera remains hidden in one of the ponds beneath a basket with her child, patiently waiting for the Klatooinian raiders to depart. Eventually, the Klatooinian raiders leave with all the freshly harvested krills and retreat into the jungle. Omera embraces her child and gazes upon her village from the pond, overcome with shock and horror.

In the interim, the Mandalorian is traversing through space aboard his Razor Crest accompanied by the Child. The Child is sitting beside him, observing its surroundings and engaging with the switches located to the right. The Mandalorian takes notice of the Child’s interaction with the controls and requests that it refrain from touching any components within the cockpit. Despite the Mandalorian’s warning, the Child proceeds to activate a switch, resulting in a sudden and forceful jolt of the ship. The Mandalorian promptly deactivates the switch and retrieves the Child, placing it on his lap to examine a holographic map of a nearby planet named Sorgan. This planet is devoid of any starports, industrial centers, or significant population density, rendering it an ideal location to remain concealed. Addressing the Child as a womp rat, the Mandalorian inquires if it is prepared to remain hidden for a few months and stretch its legs, as they will remain undetected in this location. The Mandalorian then pilots the Razor Crest into the planet’s atmosphere, attracting the attention of the village woman Omera and other inhabitants who observe the ship’s descent with curiosity.

Sorgan is a verdant planet replete with numerous small and large bodies of water. The Mandalorian deftly lands the Razor Crest in an expansive clearing, ensconced by towering trees. The Child remains nestled in the Mandalorian’s embrace, eagerly reaching for the ship’s controls. After powering down the engine, the Mandalorian rises and secures the Child in its designated seat. He instructs the Child to remain there whilst he procures suitable accommodations, assuring the Child of his imminent return. The Mandalorian reiterates the importance of the Child remaining stationary and seeks confirmation of comprehension, to which the Child responds with a grunt. The Mandalorian proceeds to the ship’s entrance and deftly activates the ramp by pushing a series of buttons on the left-hand side.

Upon turning, the Mandalorian sees the child standing to his right. Although slightly annoyed, the Mandalorian permits the child to accompany him, recognizing that the child would become restless in his absence. The Mandalorian proceeds at a leisurely pace, leading the child through the meadows to a Sorgan public house. The villagers within the establishment engage in conversation upon sighting the child walking alongside the Mandalorian. A loth cat seated beneath a chair growls at the child, causing the startled youngster to hastily join the Mandalorian, who is in search of an unoccupied seat. The proprietor of the public house is a woman by the name of Dara Vish.

The Mandalorian proceeded to seat the Child in a small chair before taking a seat himself. Dara Vish approached them and extended a warm welcome, inquiring if there was anything she could offer them. The Mandalorian requested bone broth for the Child, to which Vish informed them that they were fortunate as she had recently hunted a Grinjer, and there was an abundance of broth available for both of them. She then inquired if she could bring a porringer of broth for the Mandalorian as well, but he politely declined, requesting that it be served only for the Child. Vish acquiesced to his request and began to depart. However, before she could leave, the Mandalorian inquired about a tall and well-built woman who was sitting alone in a corner. He was curious to know when she had arrived. The woman in question averted her gaze.

Dara Vish informed the Mandalorian that the woman had been frequenting her tavern for approximately one week. The Mandalorian inquired about the woman’s purpose for being there, to which Vish replied that there was little business to be had on Sorgan, making it difficult to discern the woman’s intentions. Vish then chuckled and placed her hands in her pockets, indicating a desire for payment. The Mandalorian placed a few credits on the table, prompting a smile from Vish. She expressed gratitude for the credits and remarked that the woman in the corner, who was revealed to be Cara Dune, did not appear to be a woodcutter. Vish then proceeded to collect the credits and informed the Mandalorian that she would promptly bring the broth, along with a flagon of Spotchka as a gesture of goodwill. She assured him that she would return shortly. The Mandalorian turned his attention back to the woman in the corner, only to find that she had vacated her seat. He rose from his chair and placed a few additional credits on the table, requesting that Vish keep a watchful eye on the Child until his return. Vish acknowledged his request and gazed at the credits with surprise and appreciation.

The Mandalorian emerged from the public house and endeavored to locate the woman. Utilizing the thermal scanner in his helmet, he scrutinized the ground and discovered her footprints. The Mandalorian proceeded to trail the footprints until he reached a point where they ceased. Suddenly, he detected a presence on his right. Cara was suspended from a bar and delivered a forceful kick to his chest. As he endeavored to regain his balance, she landed a punch on him. Her combat prowess was evident as she swiftly brought the Mandalorian to the ground with a series of punches. The Mandalorian attempted to utilize his flamethrower, but Cara immobilized his hand with her leg, rendering the weapon ineffective. After a few moments, both combatants were lying on the ground, each with their blasters aimed at the other. In the meantime, the Child had arrived at the scene, carrying a bowl of broth. Cara gazed at the Child, and the Mandalorian inquired if she would like some soup.

Chapter 4- the Sanctuary

The two proceeded to return to the cantina with the child in tow, and convened at the same table to engage in a discussion regarding their respective pasts. Carasynthia Dune, commonly referred to as Cara, proceeded to elaborate to the Mandalorian that she had been actively involved in the aftermath of the Endor conflict, specifically in the eradication of ex-imperial warlords. The New Republic had been keen on expediting the process in a discreet manner, and thus dispatched shock troopers such as Cara without any form of reinforcement. Following the departure of the imperials, political tensions began to arise. Shock troopers were subsequently tasked with the role of maintaining peace and order, protecting delegates, and quelling riots. This was not the initial intention of Cara’s enlistment. The Mandalorian inquired as to how Cara had arrived at Sorgan, to which she revealed that she had opted for early retirement.

Cara was aware that Mandalorian was a member of the guild of bounty hunters. She had surmised that Mandalorian had pursued her with a fob, which prompted her to attack him. After finishing her soup, Cara declared her intention to depart. Before leaving, she cautioned Mandalorian that if he wished to avoid another altercation, he must permit her to leave. Mandalorian turned to the child and informed him that it seemed the planet had been seized. It was nighttime, and a few moths fluttered around a lamp suspended from a stick on a speeder. Two villagers were riding the speeder, which was being driven by an astromech and moving at a leisurely pace. They arrived at the location where Mandalorian was repairing his Razor Crest. Caben, one of the villagers, approached him and requested his assistance against raiders, offering to compensate him for his services. Mandalorian inquired if the villagers believed him to be a mercenary. The other villager asked if he was a Mandalorian or at least someone wearing Mandalorian armor. Mandalorian confirmed that he was indeed a Mandalorian. Caben informed Mandalorian that he had brought all the money they had and proceeded to explain the situation. The villagers were krill farmers, and their entire harvest had been stolen by raiders. They brewed spotchka, and the entire village had contributed to eliminate the raiders.

The Mandalorian informed Caben that the remuneration offered was insufficient. Despite Caben’s attempts to persuade him and show him the money, the Mandalorian remained resolute in his decision, stating that he was aware that the amount was inadequate. Caben implored him, explaining that it was all they could offer at the moment and that they would compensate him more generously after the next harvest. However, the Mandalorian declined firmly, wishing to avoid any potential conflict. Disappointed, the two villagers prepared to depart, expressing their frustration at having traveled for an entire day only to return empty-handed and now having to ride back in the middle of the night without any protection. The Mandalorian was taken aback by their final statement and inquired as to where they resided. The villagers responded that they lived on a farm and had previously mentioned that they were krill farmers. The Mandalorian then asked where their home was located and Caben replied in the middle of nowhere. Din Djarin asked if they could accommodate him and Caben confirmed.

The Mandalorian inquires of the villagers if they would be able to provide him with lodging. One of the villagers affirms that they most certainly could and the Mandalorian requests their assistance in loading his belongings onto their speeder. The villagers readily comply with his request. The Mandalorian then proceeds to collect payment from them before making his way over to Cara, who was seated by a fire beneath the trees. Startled by his sudden appearance, she raises her blaster. The Mandalorian queries if she is prepared for a second round. As they sit on the speeder, Cara inquires if they are fending off raiders for a meager sum. The Mandalorian responds that they are instead being lodged in a remote location, which is a fair deal for someone in her position. He advises her to prepare her blaster for any potential danger, but also notes that their mere presence in the village may serve as a deterrent to raiders.

The Mandalorian expresses confidence in Cara’s abilities as an ex-shock trooper to handle any potential threats. He then stretches and settles into a more comfortable position, with the Child following suit and gazing up at the stars above. The following morning, the speeder comes to a halt near the village, jolting Cara awake. The children excitedly run towards the speeder, marveling at the Child’s cuteness. Meanwhile, the villagers unload the Mandalorian’s belongings from the speeder.

The Mandalorian Chapter 4

Omera was in the process of preparing a barn for Mandalorian and Cara when the former arrived carrying a small box. Upon reaching the door, he was greeted by the woman who invited him inside. She expressed regret that the barn was the only accommodation they could offer, to which Mandalorian responded that it would suffice. Omera informed him that she had arranged some blankets in the corner, for which he expressed gratitude. At this point, Omera’s daughter Winta appeared at the door, feeling shy and hesitant to meet a stranger. Mandalorian became alert and turned around, sensing her presence. Winta quickly hid herself, but Omera brought her forward to introduce her to Mandalorian. She explained that Winta was not accustomed to visitors, as the village did not receive many. Omera then informed Winta that Mandalorian was there to protect them from the raiders. Finally, she suggested that they leave and allow their guests to rest.

The Mandalorian was examining his rifle when Omera approached the entrance and politely knocked before entering. The Mandalorian invited her in, and she presented him with a plate of food. Her daughter, Winta, followed closely behind and gazed at the Child with excitement. The young girl expressed her desire to feed the Child, and the Mandalorian granted her request. Winta approached the wooden cradle where the Child was resting and began to feed it. She then asked if she could play with the Child, and the Mandalorian obliged by placing the Child before her. Winta wished to take the Child outside, but the Mandalorian hesitated, prompting Omera to intervene. She urged him to allow the Child to go with Winta, assuring him that the Child would be safe. The Mandalorian reluctantly agreed, and Omera informed him that she had brought food for him, noticing that he had not eaten. She then inquired about the Mandalorian’s helmet, asking when he had last removed it and if he had ever done so in the presence of others.

A group of children were playing outdoors near the barn when the Mandalorian directed Omera’s attention towards them. He remarked that he was not much older than the children. Omera was taken aback by this revelation and inquired whether the Mandalorian had not revealed his face to anyone since his childhood. The Mandalorian responded by expressing his contentment at having become a Mandalorian at a young age. He recounted how his parents had been killed and the Mandalorians had taken him under their wing. The Mandalorian concluded by stating, “This is the way.” Subsequently, Omera departed, leaving the Mandalorian alone in the barn. He proceeded to remove his helmet and place it by the window before partaking of the food.

Mandalorian and Cara traversed through the forest, with the former diligently scanning the ground for footprints. He observed several of them and proceeded to inform Cara that approximately 15 to 20 individuals had passed through the area on foot. Mandalorian then directed his attention to the broken branches of the surrounding trees, indicating that a colossal entity had caused the damage. As they continued their journey, they encountered a sight that left them astounded. Mandalorian knelt down and scrutinized the sizable footprint imprinted on the ground, with Cara joining him and identifying it as that of an AT-ST Walker. Mandalorian inquired as to why an Imperial Walker would be present in the vicinity, to which Cara expressed her ignorance. The situation had exceeded her expectations, as evidenced by the additional footprints of a large battle droid that were visible on the ground, extending to the other end of the jungle.

Mandalorian and Cara return to the village to deliver some unfortunate news. Mandalorian informs the villagers that they can no longer reside in the area. The villagers express surprise and inquire as to the reason for this decision. Cara is taken aback by Mandalorian’s blunt delivery of the news and sarcastically comments on his lack of tact. Mandalorian challenges her to do better, to which Cara responds that she cannot do much worse. She then addresses the villagers, informing them that while they may not have been anticipating such news, they have no other options. Caben, one of the villagers, reminds them that they had accepted the job. Cara explains that this was before she was aware of the presence of an AT-ST, an armored walker with two large guns that the villagers had neglected to mention. The villagers implore Mandalorian and Cara for assistance, stating that they have nowhere else to go. Omera adds that they are left with no other choice. Cara counters that there are other planets available for them to settle on, but the villagers are reluctant to leave.

One of the villagers informs them that his grandparents had seeded these ponds, and it had taken generations to transform them into their current state. While Cara comprehends the significance of this, she is aware that they are outnumbered by the raiders and a formidable battle droid. Caben counters her argument by pointing out that the villagers could also be counted as allies, with a minimum of twenty individuals present. However, Cara urges them to be realistic, as none of them possess the necessary combat skills to confront the Klatooinian raiders and their battle droid. She cites her own experience of witnessing an AT-ST decimate entire troops within minutes. Omera, however, remains resolute in their decision not to flee. Cara expresses her inability to fight the battle droid, but the Mandalorian intervenes and suggests that they teach the villagers how to defend themselves. Subsequently, the Mandalorian and Cara convene with the villagers to discuss their strategy, standing at the village’s outer edge near the woods where the Klatooinians had launched their attack.

The Mandalorian has identified two issues that require attention. The first pertains to the bandits, while the second concerns the mech. He and Cara have taken it upon themselves to handle the AT-ST, but the villagers must protect them in the event of an attack from the woods. The Mandalorian has made it clear to the villagers that the danger posed by the attackers is significant. To address this, he has introduced Cara Dune, a veteran and drop soldier for the rebellion, who will provide a plan for the villagers to follow. It is imperative that they listen carefully to her instructions. Cara Dune has informed the villagers that the AT-ST’s legs are impervious to damage from anything on the planet. Therefore, a trap must be constructed. She has directed the villagers to dig a deep hole in one of the ponds, so that when the AT-ST steps in, it will fall. The villagers have commenced digging the pond. Cara has also informed the Mandalorian that they will provoke the raiders by attacking their camp, thereby bringing the fight to the village. The Mandalorian has addressed the villagers, requesting that they cut down trees and construct barricades around the perimeter of the village in the direction from which the raiders are expected to attack. The barricade must be of sufficient height to prevent the raiders from scaling it, and it must be sturdy enough to withstand their attempts to break through.

The Mandalorian inquired of the villagers whether they possessed any proficiency in marksmanship, to which Omera raised her left hand. Subsequently, the Mandalorian presented the villagers with an array of weapons from his arsenal, including several blasters, which he distributed among them. Meanwhile, Cara was occupied with training a small group of villagers in the art of combat using wooden spears. The Mandalorian proceeded to instruct the villagers in the art of shooting, utilizing pans and other utensils as targets. However, none of the villagers demonstrated any particular aptitude for shooting, with the exception of Omera, who displayed remarkable skill in handling the Mandalorian’s rifle and hitting the target with precision. The Mandalorian stood beside her, nodding in appreciation at her accuracy. Cara’s training of the villagers proved effective, as they began to wield the wooden spears with greater proficiency and confidence. As evening approached, the Mandalorian visited Omera at her residence to inform her of their impending departure and the likelihood of a confrontation upon their return. Omera assured him that they would be prepared. Cara joined them briefly before the Mandalorian and she departed. Omera watched them leave with a slightly apprehensive expression.

Inside the dark woods, Cara and Mandalorian made haste towards the enemy’s shelter. Upon arrival, they discovered an encampment where two Klatooinians were seated beside a fire, indulging in spotchka. Mandalorian stealthily apprehended one while Cara subdued the other. Upon entering a nearby tent, they discovered several tubs of spotchka. While Mandalorian set up a detonator, Cara examined the contents of one of the tubs. As the detonator began to beep, Mandalorian signaled to Cara that there was movement outside. Suddenly, two drunken Klatooinians entered the tent, followed by two more. Within moments, Mandalorian and Cara had subdued them. However, more Klatooinians soon arrived, and a fierce battle ensued. Despite being outnumbered, Mandalorian and Cara fought valiantly, with Mandalorian even using a nearby tub as a weapon. As two armed Klatooinians entered the tent and began firing, Mandalorian retaliated with his blaster, creating small holes in the tent. With the detonator still beeping, Cara and Mandalorian made their escape through the holes in the tent.

As soon as they emerged from the tent, they prostrated themselves on the ground. The explosion occurred the following moment. Cara postulated that their strategy had been successful. They remained prone on the ground outside the tent and observed the AT-ST ascending from its location, its colossal head gradually rising towards the sky, and its glowing red eyes resembling blazing ovens. The duo stood up and fled. The AT-ST fired at them, and they sprinted through the jungle towards the village, attempting to evade its blasts. They ran swiftly and entered the barricade, where the villagers were armed and prepared. Cara and the Mandalorian joined the villagers, taking cover behind the barricades. Soon, they could perceive the AT-ST’s glowing red eyes and hear the thudding of its footsteps. The Mandalorian informed Cara that the droid was only a few steps away from the deep pond. The AT-ST approached the pond but halted at its edge, gazing at the village from that vantage point. It activated its searchlight and began scanning the village. Two villagers who were still standing were visible in the light, and the droid fired at them. A group of Klatooinian raiders emerged from the jungle, shouting and running towards the village.

Cara commands all individuals to commence firing, prompting the villagers to shoot at the Klatooinians who are advancing towards the village. Several Klatooinians are struck down, and the Mandalorian eliminates a few with his rifle. The AT-ST also begins to fire at the barricade behind which the villagers are taking cover. The Klatooinian raiders are attempting to make their way towards the village. The Mandalorian communicates to Cara that they must lure the AT-ST into the pond. Cara responds that she is contemplating a strategy. The walker is firing at the barricades, causing the villagers to seek refuge and flee for their lives. The children are hiding inside a barn with the Child Grogu, and they are distressed by the loud explosions outside.

Cara informs the Mandalorian that she has devised a new plan, and he inquires about her intentions. She requests that he provide her with the pulse rifle. The Mandalorian agrees to cover her, and Cara advances towards the walker while it is firing at the Klatooinians. She manages to approach the walker, and it takes notice of her and fires a shot that misses her by a meter. Cara leaps into the pond, where the walker cannot see her. The embankment of the pond is sufficiently high to conceal her from the walker’s shots. She peeks out and aims her rifle at the walker, firing at its head from close range. The walker detects her presence but is unable to obtain a clear shot, and it moves to the edge of the pond to get closer to her position.

Omera is motivating the villagers to fight, emphasizing the urgency of the situation. A group of villagers, armed with spears, charge towards the Klatooinians while Omera and other villagers engage in combat by shooting at them.

Cara takes aim at the walker once again, this time targeting its eye to provoke movement. The walker takes a step and falls into a nearby pond, rendering it immobile. The Mandalorian retrieves a hand grenade and approaches the fallen walker, while Cara remains in her position in the water. He throws the grenade into the viewport and takes cover beside Cara. The explosion obliterates the AT-ST. The villagers successfully defeat the Klatooinian raiders, with their leader being killed by wooden spears. The remaining Klatooinians flee into the woods, pursued by the villagers who continue to shoot at them. Omera expresses her relief and joy at the enemy’s defeat, and the villagers cheer in triumph. The Mandalorian joins Cara in the water and inquires about their plan, to which she responds that it was a similar strategy.

The following morning, tranquility reigns in the village. The village kids are joyfully observing the Child as it trails a frog. The Child proceeds to ingest the frog, prompting the children to grimace in disgust. Upon noticing their reaction, the Child expels the amphibian from its mouth, allowing it to bound away and plunge into the water. The children erupt in laughter, while the Child gazes at them with a perplexed expression. The Mandalorian and Cara are positioned outside a barn, with Omera presenting Cara with a beverage from within. Omera inquires of the Mandalorian if she may set something inside the barn. The Mandalorian expresses his gratitude and suggests that it may be done at a later time. Observing the Child, Omera remarks to the Mandalorian that the Child appears content in this environment. The Mandalorian acknowledges her statement and confirms that the Child has assimilated well with the other children in the village.

Upon Omera’s departure, Cara inquires of the Mandalorian whether removing his helmet would result in someone killing him. The Mandalorian responds that once he has removed it before another, he can never put it back on again. Cara suggests that if that was the only issue, he could remove his helmet, settle down with Omera, and raise the child while enjoying Spotchka. However, the Mandalorian explains that their recent actions on the planet have caused too much commotion for a small town like this, and they may need to move on to avoid any repercussions. Cara points out the child’s happiness playing with the other children and expresses concern that leaving may cause disappointment. The Mandalorian explains that he intends to leave the child here since traveling with him is not an ideal life for a child. He has fulfilled his duty of keeping the child safe, and now it is time for the child to live its life. Cara worries that this may break the child’s heart, but the Mandalorian assures her that the child will eventually move on, as everyone does.

A Kubaz bounty hunter is approaching the village through the woods while holding a beeping tracking fob. The Mandalorian proceeds to converse with Omera, taking her aside to express that the child appears content among the village children. Omera inquires about the Mandalorian’s background and whether he too experienced happiness in the village. The Mandalorian refrains from responding. Omera expresses her desire for him to remain, as the community is grateful for his heroic actions in saving their lives. She suggests that he stow away his weaponry and armor, as they may not be necessary in the immediate future. Omera proposes that he and the child can lead a pleasant life among the villagers, with the child being able to play and live among other children. She expresses her curiosity regarding the Mandalorian’s thoughts on living among them, questioning whether it would be agreeable for him. The Mandalorian responds affirmatively.

Omera grasps the Mandalorian’s helmet with both hands, while the Kubaz Bounty hunter observes the back of the Mandalorian’s helmet through the scope. The Mandalorian removes Omera’s hands from the helmet and informs her that he does not belong in this place. However, he asserts that the child belongs among the other children and the villagers. Omera assures him that she comprehends and promises to care for the child as her own. The Kubaz bounty hunter takes aim at the child, focusing on its forehead through the scope. Suddenly, a shot echoes through the woods, startling the Mandalorian and causing birds to flutter from the trees. The Mandalorian draws his blaster and instructs Omera to retrieve the children. She promptly complies, and he heads towards the location of the gunshot. In the woods, Cara stands with her blaster aimed at the bounty hunter’s head. The Kubaz Bounty hunter’s lifeless body falls to the ground, and the Mandalorian approaches, observing the smoking corpse. He nudges the body with his foot and discovers a tracking fob lying nearby. Cara inquires as to whom the fob was tracking, and the Mandalorian confirms that it was tracking the child. Cara deduces that more bounty hunters will come, and the Mandalorian agrees. He tosses the fob onto a rock and crushes it under his boot.

The child is seated upon the speeder while the Mandalorian is loading his belongings onto the vehicle. Cara approaches and inquires of the Mandalorian whether he requires an escort. The Mandalorian responds that he appreciates her offer, but intends to bypass the town and proceed directly to the Razor Crest. The Mandalorian and Cara bid each other farewell, expressing the hope that their paths will cross again. Cara proceeds on her way, carrying her backpack. Winta rushes forward and embraces the Child, seated upon the speeder, expressing her sorrow at his departure. The Mandalorian places his rifle upon the speeder and boards it. The speeder departs slowly, with the Child observing the villagers standing by as he and the Mandalorian depart.
