John Wick 4 Plot Summary

John Wick 4 cast

The fourth installment of the John Wick franchise commences from the point where the third chapter concluded. John Wick endeavors to retrieve his ring and attain his liberty, and in pursuit of this objective, he eliminates several members of the high table. Upon being informed by the subsequent member that he cannot obtain his desired possessions while alive, Wick resorts to shooting him down in the desert. Subsequently, a messenger with a missing ring finger on his left hand visits the hotel manager, Winston. The high table has confiscated the hotel from Winston, and he is left with a mere hour to evacuate the premises.

The manager and Charon have been summoned before Marquis Vincent De Gramont, who holds exclusive authority in this matter and will determine their fate. The Marquis has attributed the continued survival of Wick to the manager of Hotel Continental, resulting in the confiscation and destruction of the establishment. As Winston and Charon observe the proceedings from a nearby window, the Marquis proceeds to fatally shoot Charon. He then dispatches one of his subordinates to retrieve Caine, a former acquaintance of John Wick who is blind. Despite his reluctance to engage in conflict against Wick, Caine is coerced into doing so under threat of harm to his sole daughter.

At the Osaka Continental, a guest accompanied by his canine companion checked in and tendered payment in the form of a gold coin. This individual is actively pursuing John Wick. The management of the establishment is overseen by Shimazu Koji and his daughter Akira, who have expressed concern over the recent events in New York. While Akira is hesitant to involve her father in John Wick’s predicament, Koji feels compelled to assist his old friend in his time of need. Upon Wick’s arrival, Koji is summoned to meet him in the courtyard, where he learns that the High Table has dispatched its agents to the Osaka Continental to apprehend Wick. Koji orders his men to prepare for battle. In the ensuing confrontation between Marquis Gramont’s operatives and Koji’s forces, Caine fatally wounds Koji, leaving his daughter to vow vengeance. However, Akira herself sustains grave injuries in the melee. Wick manages to evade capture, but the shooter who had checked in with his dog remains in pursuit, biding his time until the bounty on Wick increases. Nevertheless, he takes care to ensure that no one else claims the prize, as that would diminish his own chances of collecting the reward. Meanwhile, the bounty on John Wick continues to escalate.

Maquis Vincent de Gramont encounters the tracker who identifies himself as “nobody” and who had been responsible for tracking John Wick. However, their initial meeting fails to yield an agreement on the price for their services. John Wick seeks out Winston and inquires about Marquis Vincent de Gramont, who had been granted all the necessary resources by the high table to eliminate him. Wick expresses his desire to eliminate Gramont, who is currently in Paris. However, he realizes that this would not bring an end to his troubles, as someone else would soon take Gramont’s place. Winston suggests that John Wick challenge Vincent to a one-on-one combat. John Wick is in need of a family, but his ticket had been torn by Ruska Roma. He must return to Berlin to have it mended, as it is now a mandatory requirement for him to challenge Vincent. Both Winston and Wick seek revenge against the marquis. John Wick travels to Berlin, but his family does not welcome him. He seeks out his uncle Pyotr, only to discover that he has passed away. Pyotr’s daughter Katia holds Wick responsible for her father’s death, but she agrees to help him if he avenges Pyotr’s killer, Killa Harkan. Katia promises to mend his ticket and allow him back into the Ruska Roma family if he is successful. Meanwhile, the tracker has followed John Wick to Berlin and informs Marquis Vincent of his whereabouts.

John Wick visits Killa Harkan and engages in a game of cards with him. Subsequently, he launches an assault on Killa Harkan, triumphs over his subordinates, eliminates him, and procures one of his gold teeth as evidence. Wick proceeds to have his ticket restored, thereby reinstating his membership in the Ruska Roma clan.

Winston, acting on behalf of Wick, visited Marquis Vincent to apprise him of the challenge to a duel. Wick’s stipulations were that he be granted Victoria Fiduciae, which would absolve him of all obligations to the high table in the event of his victory. Additionally, Winston, as Wick’s second, conveyed his own terms, which included the reconstruction and consecration of the Continental New York, as well as the lifting of his excommunicado status. Marquis Vincent acquiesced to these terms, but cautioned Winston that if Wick were to lose, he too would face a similar fate.

A meeting was convened between Marquis Vincent and Wick, in the presence of the Harbinger and Caine. The Harbinger outlined the rules of the duel, and Marquis Vincent elected to engage Wick at sunrise, using duelling pistols. In the event that both combatants survived the first round, they would advance ten paces closer to each other for the subsequent round. Vincent designated Caine as his substitute. The Harbinger cautioned that failure to arrive at the designated location at the appointed time would result in forfeiture and immediate execution. Despite his reluctance, Caine was compelled to fight on behalf of the Marquis.

Wick proceeds to meet with the Bowery King, who presents him with a new bulletproof suit. However, the situation takes a turn for the worse when the Marquis announces a staggering bounty of $26 million for Wick’s demise that very night. Failure to reach the designated location would result in the Marquis' victory, with no opportunity for a duel. The task at hand requires the successful elimination of Wick before sunrise, prompting several individuals to attempt to claim the prize. Despite their efforts, Wick proves to be an insurmountable obstacle, dispatching numerous assailants with ease. The tracker eventually proposes a $35 million fee for Wick’s elimination, which is later negotiated to $40 million by Maquis Vincent, who sees no other viable option for success.

John Wick was successfully defending himself against his attackers, causing concern for the Marquis. The tracker also eliminated several individuals attempting to reach Wick before him. During their confrontation, Chidi, who was working for Vincent, arrived with the intention of killing Wick. However, the tracker’s dog intervened and attacked Chidi. As Chidi prepared to shoot the dog, Wick intervened and saved the animal’s life. Following this act of kindness, the tracker ceased his attempts to harm Wick. As Wick approached the church where the duel was to take place, he encountered obstacles in the form of Vincent’s men. Despite their numbers, Wick was able to eliminate several of them before Caine arrived to assist him. Together, they fought their way to the church, arriving just before sunrise.

The duel commences between Caine and Wick, with each participant armed with a single bullet in their pistol for one round of the game. They stand 60 paces apart. In the first round, both contestants miss the target and end up wounding each other. For the subsequent round, they move 20 paces closer. In the second round, Caine wounds Wick in the shoulder, but he himself receives a more severe shot in the right of his belly. They move ten paces closer to each other for the next round. Caine fires first in the third round, and Wick falls to the ground after being shot in his belly. The tracker and Winston both express disappointment at the outcome.

Marquis Vincent approached Caine and retrieved the firearm with the intention of terminating John Wick. As a result, Caine and his daughter were liberated from their captivity. The Marquis was determined to eliminate Wick, who remained prone on the ground. However, the Marquis was unaware that John had not discharged his weapon during the previous round, and one bullet remained in his pistol. When Marquis Vincent took possession of the firearm and proceeded to execute Wick, Wick preemptively shot him in the forehead, thereby emerging victorious from the duel. John Wick was absolved of his obligations to the High Table, and Winston was poised to regain ownership of his hotel. Despite sustaining a grievous wound to his abdomen, Wick rose to his feet and observed the sunrise while seated on the steps of the church, reminiscing about his beloved wife, Helen. He subsequently collapsed and perished on the church steps. His remains were cremated and interred alongside his wife’s grave. Winston and Bowery King paid their respects at the gravesite and bid their final farewells.
